Glittery San Francisco Palace Hotel Wedding of Dan and Jessica was a wedding we had the privilege of shooting last fall! These two are so in love and was expressed through their photos we got to capture. Enjoy their story and wedding!
Dan and Jessica met through an online dating website. They went on their first date November 2011 to a little wine bar in Pacifica. Not long after, they would drive 2.5 hours every weekend to be with each other
One of Jessica’s favorite things to do is play tourist in San Francisco, and Dan and Jess have made it a tradition every year around Jess’ birthday to explore the sites. It was the perfect opportunity to disguise the proposal 🙂
At their first stop of the day, Dan and Jess climbed up The Mosaic Stairs, to find a beautiful view of The City. There, Dan pulled out a note that read,
“I have secrets:
I had a Moscow mule without you. It had a jalapeño in it, and it was awesome. =) (Mexican mule)
I had it with your parents one night for dinner.
Your parents said yes =)
Your ring is finished … finally, and I can’t wait any longer to give it to you, or to ask.
The stairs we climbed paved the way to a beautiful view. We’ll start today, as the rest of our lives. I hold your hand with each step, and I’ll always know you’ll hold mine right back. Each step is a little work, as we expect it. It’s worth it, because at the top is a beautiful view. I love you, and will love you more every day, as I have every day since the day we met. I would love to hold your hand through each day and each step of our lives.”
Dan dropped to one knee and asked the big question, “Will you marry me?”
Of course, through tears of happiness, Jessica said yes!
(Dan had been planning the proposal even before Jessica was in the hospital in 2014. While she was there and down he slipped and said “I have secrets”, which was later the beginning of his proposal.)
By that time a small crowd had gathered and applauded their engagement.
There are so many special memories from the wedding it is hard to say. The ceremony and exchanging our personal vows was a very special moment for both of us.
I think what is really interesting looking back on our relationship is how we ended up together. Both Dan and I were going through similar situations before we met each other. I wish that 5 years ago, when we were both going through a hard time, we would have known that those experiences were going to be what ultimately brought us together.
Dan and I live in Millbrae now with our two dogs and our cat. Dan is a veteran and is now using the GI bill to go back to school. Jessica works at an outpatient hospital, and works with Special Needs children.
Everyone was so amazing it is hard to pick. Can I say my mom? Haha. She wasn’t a vendor, but none of those really special little details would have happened without her. I’m may be a little too carefree for my own good, so without my mom and her Type A personality (said in the best of ways of course), none of it would have gotten done!
Dave Martin’s House Party was so, so AWESOME though. Dave is just so nice and really got to know us as a couple beforehand. They played non-stop, all night long… and people literally danced non-stop right along with them.
There is an episode of The Office that goes a little something like this…..
“Pam Beesly: Hey my aunt told me something neat. She said everything with the wedding goes by so fast, we should try to take mental pictures of the high points.
Jim Halpert: Oh wow, that’s cool. [turns to Pam] Click! Oh you blinked! Dammit now that’s in my brain forever.
Pam Beesly: Oh.
Jim Halpert: What a lousy picture.
Pam Beesly: We should’ve hired a professional to take the mental pictures.”
You hire a professional photographer to take pictures of all the details of the wedding, which is amazing, but throughout the night, stop and take a “mental picture” through your own eyes. Take a moment to sit and talk to your partner and soak it all in.
